What is the Ghost Edition CardMill?
The Ghost Edition™ is a semi-transparent version of CardMill - watch it all work from the inside out. The Ghost Edition™ will feature a soft, diffused translucent finish (not 100% clear) with subtle texture to help minimize visible wear over time.
Backers will receive a discount and can upgrade to the Ghost Edition during the survey for $40 (no coupon needed). During the survey backers will select what color they would like for each of their CardMills they purchased and there will be an option to choose the Ghost Edition there.
Tray materials for all CardMills are being tested and finalized to ensure optimal card protection and performance. Material choice and manufacturing requirements will end up determining if final trays will be grey or semi-transparent. We’ll keep backers updated.

Are there any recurring fees?
Kickstarter backers will receive lifetime access to core scanning and sorting features, including core updates we release, with no recurring charges for each device you pledge for. Optional premium features may be introduced in the future that may introduce subscriptions.
After the Kickstarter survey closes on May 31, 2026, Kickstarter backers may activate unlimited free scans on up to TWO additional CardMills purchased through CardMill. Any additional units purchase beyond May 31, 2026 may not include unlimited free scans as we are evaluating if a subscription model is necessary.

How are cards protected during scanning?
- We use a non-abrasive rubber cam to move each card from the hopper to the scanning chamber.
- After scanning, the card is gravity-fed into a discharge tray designed with curved bottoms to nudge the card gently into place. We are also exploring choosing a material that will help soften the landing in the tray.
- We detect that a card has been properly fed to be scanned and if not the device will stop and alert you.
- We are also developing a sensor in the card discharge funnel to detect if a card is stuck and it will automatically stop the processing if it detects a stuck card.
We’ve fine-tuned the mechanics to ensure cards have minimal touch and move safely and smoothly at every step.

Is CardMill available outside the USA?
Not yet. We’re starting with U.S. distribution only for our first production run, but we hope to expand internationally soon. We’d absolutely love to bring CardMill to collectors around the world. For launch, we’re limiting availability to the U.S. for a few key reasons:
Shipping logistics and customs: International shipping introduces complexities around customs, tariffs, and support that we’re not quite equipped to handle on day one.
Electronics compliance: Each region has its own electrical standards and certifications, and we want to make sure we’re compliant before expanding.
Server performance: CardMill relies on cloud-based systems, and currently we’ll only have U.S.-based servers. International users could experience slower performance or delays, which we want to avoid.
That said, international availability is definitely on our roadmap. If things go well with the Kickstarter, expanding to other regions will be a top priority. Appreciate your support and patience, we’re just getting started!

How many cards can be processed at once?
The standard CardMill hopper holds up to 400 unsleeved cards, perfect for a full booster box. With the optional large hopper upgrade, you can process up to 800 cards in a single batch.
Last updated: March 30, 2026 08:18
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes. CardMill requires a constant internet connection via Wi-Fi or Ethernet in order to scan, identify, and manage your cards.
Last updated: March 30, 2026 08:18
Can CardMill work with sleeved cards?
CardMill supports perfect-fit sleeves at launch. Standard (non-fitted) sleeves are not currently supported due to feed and spacing constraints. If you place standard sleeves in the CardMill it will not work and could cause damage to the system.
Last updated: March 30, 2026 08:19
How long does it take to process a full hopper?
The original prototype took about 1 hour to autonomously process 300 cards. We refined the tray movement system and expect to cut that time in half, with an estimated speed of 30–40 minutes per full hopper by the time units ship. We are in pre-production testing and will update our exact speeds as soon as testing is complete.
Last updated: March 30, 2026 08:20
What options are available for sorting?
CardMill has three modes: Scan Only, Sort Only, Scan and Sort
- The scan-only mode will add your card to inventory, but not sort it.
- Sort-only mode will physically sort, but not add to your inventory.
- Scan and Sort will do both.
Supported sorting methods (one at a time): Alphabetical (1st, 2nd or 3rd letter) * By set * By card color * By card type * By rarity * By price (up to 5 tiers) * Targeted search - this will allow you to set parameters on the portal and be notified when a card triggers one of the filters.
Sorting by price, rarity, alphabetical 2nd and 3rd letter and targeted search was an unlocked stretch goal! And we’re building in room for even more customization in the future.
Last updated: March 30, 2026 08:25
Can I export my scanned data?
Yes! After scanning, you can view, filter, and export your collection as a CSV file from our web portal. This makes it easy to import into platforms like TCGPlayer, Moxfield, Deckbox, Archidekt, and others.
Last updated: March 30, 2026 08:26
What games will CardMill support long-term?
We’re committed to expanding CardMill’s game library based on community demand. Backers can suggest new games, and we prioritize support based on popularity and feasibility.
Last updated: August 15, 2025 16:06
Can I sort cards without scanning them?
CardMill always scans for identification, but if you prefer not to digitally catalog the cards, you can use it purely as a physical sorter based on card attributes.
Last updated: March 30, 2026 08:27
How many cards does the alphabetical tray slots hold?
Original prototypes of our 9” trays held 20 cards per letter. We just upgraded our trays to double the length to 18” to give backers larger card capacity. And we’ve also update the alphabetical tray to have varied slot widths so that letters such as X, Z, Y and others are reduced, which can give all other letters more capacity. More to come soon official tray/slot capacities as we are in testing on the new trays now.
Last updated: March 30, 2026 08:28
Can it scan and sort tokens?
Yes, CardMill can support scanning and sorting tokens. If a token is included as a single-sided token, it’ll be logged as such. If the token is offered as a double-sided token, it’ll be logged that way. However, if a token is offered both single-sided and double-sided, it’ll be cataloged based on the side that was face up during processing.
Last updated: March 30, 2026 08:28
Can CardMill detect and catalog card in other languages?
Yes! While the AI is trained in “English”, it does detect non-English cards as well. It provides the details of the cards back to us in English, but we have the language identified as well. For languages that use symbols vs letters, the card will be cataloged/indexed by it’s English version.

How are new TCGs added?
CardMills AI uses a combination of official and trusted third-party card databases, depending on the game:
For Magic: The Gathering, data is pulled from Scryfall, which is highly reliable and widely used across the community.
For Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Flesh and Blood, Lorcana, and others, it relies on a mix of official publisher data and curated databases maintained by respected community resources and APIs.
New sets are added shortly before they’re released when able. We’ll communicate this and have a status page for sets available on our website.

What happens if the company is no longer around?
Of course we expect to be around for a long time, constantly pushing the collecting and organization space. But your question is valid. We are a startup at the core. We’re moving quickly and iterating fast to get the product out. But not at the expense of the quality. And we believe that by taking an approach to focus on a quality product, and focusing on giving the community something new, we can achieve something great. In the unfortunate event of our lack of success, we will do what we can to make the machines work without our system. Right now, we require a connection to our network to scan cards in, but we would push out a software update that would allow users to use them without us. We’re players, in the community ourselves, and we have a personal mission to make this right.

What are the dimensions and weight of a CardMill?
Current Pre-Production Unit Size:
- 18" wide, 8" deep (unextended)
- 11" tall without any hopper
- 18.75" tall with large hopper
- 13" tall with small hopper
Full Extension 33” clearance for it to move to its furthest left to right points
*Final production unit may vary slightly as we finalize everything.

Can CardMill detect foils?
Yes, it does. But foiling is a challenge that we’re constantly working on. For the production unit we have fine tuned the lighting environment, camera and software to better detect foils. Colors on the card, ambient light, and even moisture impact the ability to detect properly. We’re actively working through testing and refinements

Does CardMill ship internationally?

How does CardMill handle reprints or the MTG The List cards?
Reprints and The List cards are fine when there is still an identifiable difference between other sets. The List does this by the Planeswalker symbol on the bottom left. Reprints vary, and some only have the set symbol difference. But the system is pretty good at picking them up. I have 2 unopened boxes of Mystery Boosters that we’ll be using to test just this scenario.

Are the actual images of my card I run through CardMill saved and available for me to download?
CardMill captures an image (front side only) of each card for the purpose of AI identification during the scanning process. These images are not stored locally on the device and are not currently available for download or later access. After AI identification what is stored in your web portal collection is the image from TCG player or 3rd party service to represent the card.
We know that image access is a feature some collectors and sellers would love, and it’s something we will explore after launch. Providing this in a reliable and secure way would require additional cloud storage, infrastructure, and ongoing transfer costs, so if it becomes available in the future it would likely be offered as an optional premium feature.
For now, our focus is on fast, accurate identification and delivering the core CardMill experience.

Is the scan only tray being offered still or why did you get rid of it?
After intensive testing we determined that the scan only tray (open tray with no slots) did not function well nor was it necessary. We were seeing that the cards were stacking and behaving better in the 13-slot tray with some dividers to stabilize the cards. The 13-slot tray will function nicely as a scan only tray and we also just doubled the card capacity of it.
Backers who bought the scan only tray will be able to choose an 26-slot alphabetical tray or 13-slot tray for their scan only needs (no extra fees). We know some backers want multiple trays on hand for staging and quicker swaps, so the choice will be yours.

How does registration work for each device?
Kickstarter backers receive unlimited scans for each CardMill they pledged. This is a backer-only benefit and must be activated using a qualifying backer account. It cannot be transferred or applied to non-backer accounts.
Each CardMill includes a one-time activation code that enables lifetime unlimited scans on that device when redeemed by a backer account. The code can only be used once and permanently applies to that device and user account.
An account can activate multiple CardMills, but each device can only be linked to one account at a time. Devices may be moved between accounts, but unlimited scan eligibility does not transfer to non-backer accounts.
If you are a playgroup, or family, and pledged multiple units in a single pledge, each machine will be able to be tied to a unique account. A backer verification step will be required.
After the Kickstarter survey closes on May 31, 2026, Kickstarter backers may activate unlimited free scans on up to ONE additional CardMill purchased through CardMill. Any additional units purchase beyond May 31, 2026 may not include unlimited free scans as we are evaluating if a subscription model is necessary.

How do I change my delivery address?
You will be able to provide updates to your shipping address in our Phase 2 backer survey in Fall 2026. We will be collecting final shipping addresses and charge shipping and handling fees in the fall backer survey. You will be asked for your address in Phase 1 survey starting March 30, 2026 as well but you will have to verify it again in Phase 2.
If you ordered a t-shirt from our survey, please input your address as we plan to ship out t-shirts soon after the Phase 1 survey closes.
We’ll send out multiple reminders and follow up with backers so don’t worry you won’t miss it!

What is your refund policy?
CardMill is in active production. At this stage of the project, funds from the Kickstarter campaign have already been allocated for engineering, tooling, and manufacturing that are required to be able to deliver CardMills for all backers. Because of that, refunds are not available.

When is shipping info and fees collected?
Shipping will be collected in Phase 2 Survey coming out Fall 2026.
You’ll receive a Phase 2 survey closer to fulfillment where: • Final shipping address is confirmed • Shipping & handling is charged
Shipping costs will be calculated based on your location and current market rates. Shipping and taxes were not collected with your Kickstarter pledge. We’re working hard to keep rates low and predictable for all backers. Flat-rate pricing is our goal and we’ll post detailed FAQs closer to fulfillment.
Estimated Shipping: $40-$60 per unit (Within the Continental US)
Shipping costs are estimated and may be adjusted closer to fulfillment due to changes in carrier pricing, fuel costs, or global shipping conditions. Additional add-ons like trays, hoppers and accessories depending on quantities might increase shipping estimate.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
